What You Should Know About Reiki: The New Way of Living

Reiki (Ray-Key) is a Japanese form of energy healing, “rei” meaning universal and “ki” meaning life energy. It is a safe and gentle touch therapy involving the practitioner placing or hovering their hands on various locations of the patients body. Reiki channels universal energy, this energy penetrates through the body and although this energy is not measurable, many who tune into it can feel it.


We are more than just a physical entity. Reiki focuses on all aspects of the body including; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It promotes deep relaxation and a sense of calm, restoring physical and emotional well-being. It promotes a positive mindset and clears your mind of mental and emotional toxins.


Energy can stay stagnate in the body due to physical or emotional pain. In time, these blocks can cause illnesses. Reiki aims to help the flow of energy throughout the body and remove negative energy and blockages, helping you live both happier and healthier.


During a Session


Reiki is typically done in a peaceful, private setting. You lie on a table, fully clothed, for up to an hour. The practitioner will place their hands lightly on or over specific areas of the client's head, limbs and torso. Each position will be held for 3-5 minutes. The practitioner may use affirmations, symbols, crystals and essential oils to help release energy, enable healing and for protection.


During the session, you may be able to feel the energy being released. You may have a feeling of warmth or tingles, see different colours or objects and you may feel different emotions. Others simply have an overall feeling of relaxation.


The number of sessions needed will vary, depending on what the client wants to accomplish. Some clients may come back a series of times to work on a particular issue and others will come routinely every 3-12 months.


Benefits of Reiki


There are many benefits of Reiki. It is a natural way to alleviate pain. Reiki practitioners have become more popular in hospitals, providing reiki as part of healing treatments after surgeries. Patients notice their pain reducing by the end of the session and inflammation subsiding within a few days.


Reiki also helps if you are living with negative energy emotions like; anger, guilt, jealously, insecurity or resentment. It can relieve those heavy burdens and provide relief from depression and anxiety.


Reiki is also very beneficial for stress relief. As humans, we deal with stress on a regular basis. Stress is the way we react when we feel under pressure or threatened, and it can drain the body, causing fatigue and creating overwhelming mindsets. Reiki has the power to remove stress from the mind and tension from the body.


Everyone can benefit from Reiki no matter the health condition. Even people who are seemingly healthy and happy can have a sense of peace thanks to Reiki.
